Red
Trumpet Honeysuckle is a glossy green climbing
vine. The leaves are opposite. The red flowers
are long and trumpet shaped, giving the plant
its name. Another name is Mailbox Honeysuckle
because it is often used to decorate mailboxes.
This
vine will grow in sun or part shade but needs
well-drained soil. It is easy to grow, and wherever
Red Trumpet Honeysuckle grows, ruby-throated hummingbirds
and butterflies will find its flashy flowers all
summer long. Songbirds relish the juicy fruits.
This is a spectacular vine that the local wildlife
will enjoy as much as you!
We
plant Red Trumpet Honeysuckle where it can clamber
over a fence or plant it to grow on a tellis,
mailbox, arbor, arch, or post. Unlike its weedy
relative, Japanese honeysuckle, trumpet honeysuckle
will not spread out of control, and its sparse
vines won't strangle your prize shrubs.
