Shrub File
Description

Tea Olive
Osmanthus fragrans

Height:   8-12'
Width:   5-6'
Exposure:   Sun or Light Shade
Water:   Low once established
Hardiness:   USDA Zones 7-9
Pruning:   May be sheared or pruned to control size.

This is a favorite old-fashioned evergreen shrub or small tree grown for its sweetly fragrant flowers. Work's well as a foundation plant when used to cover a blank wall or as a corner plant. Makes a healthy, dense and wonderfully scented screen or privacy hedge.

We often plant Tea Olive near patios, decks, and other sitting areas where the fraganced can be enjoyed. One plant can emit enough fragrance to cover a small backyard!

In Zone 8, Tea olive blooms heaviest in spring and fall during cooler weather and will even produce blooms during warm days of winter. Tolerates heavy clay soil well and is drought and deer resistant.

Can be grown as a large shrub or limb it up and you have a small evergreen tree.
