Ivy
is often considered by many to be the most ornamentally
attractive of all groundcovers. The veined, deep
green, shiny foliage provides a unique texture
all its own in the landscape.
'English'
Ivy is the most common variety. We plant this
ivy in shady, large beds or islands where it will
have plenty of room to grow and not require too
much maintenance. We are careful not to plant
it too closely to native woodlands as it can creep
into these areas and become invasive.
'Wilson'
Ivy is perhaps our favorite. The foliage is crinkled
around the edges and about 1/3 the size of English
ivy. We use this ivy in smaller areas as a groundcover,
climber, or to cascade over walls. Wilson ivy
is much easier to maintain.
There's
an old saying about ivy: "The first year
it creeps, the second year it crawls, and the
third year it leaps". One must be patient
with ivy. |
