Euonymus
coloratus, or 'Purple Winter Creeper', is a very
hardy and vigorous groundcover. The dark green
foliage turns to an attractive purple-red color
during winter. This plant will grow well in either
full sun or shade, making it one of the most versatile
groundcovers. It is not picky about soil and is
very heat and drought tolerant.
We
plant Purple Winter Creeper on slopes, as a groundcover
under the canopies of large trees, and under decks.
Basically, we like to use this tough groundcover
where we think nothing much else will grow. Aerial
roots along the stems will allow it to climb poutous
surfaces.
